What Actually Works For Increasing Traffic?

Google is the dominant search engine on the internet today, so you will want your business website to be high up in any search results. The strategies implemented for higher rankings in Google will also work with other search engines such as Bing or Yahoo.

So Google determines which pages appear higher in their list of results via an algorithm that checks for certain things on a website. These include: –

Pages that contain quality, relevant information to the search query that was entered into Google.

Websites that are active and have regular content added or regular visits.

Bounce rate, this is when a visitor goes to your website from the google search results. If they leave straight away then this is bad for your ranking, if they stay engaged with your content then this helps your ranking.

Website loading speeds, most people will move on from a website if the page they go to has not loaded within 2-3 secs.

There are many factors that are taken into account when ranking your business website on Google’s search results. These are steps that can be implemented early on & make solid foundations to move forward with.

Keyword Research and Keyword Targeting

Keyword Research and Keyword Targeting.

Another early step in search engine optimization is determining the keywords that people use when searching for your product or service. For example if you sold Oranges a likely search term would be “Oranges for Sale”. You would want your keywords to be in place to make sure that your business appeared in search results for this term.

To make sure that you have the right keywords in place you need to ascertain what people are searching for, the volume and the frequency.

Search Volume – So with oranges this is pretty obvious, but your company may sell something a bit more niche like say aglets. Not many people are aware that aglets are the small plastic or metal sheaths on shoe laces. So for that term the search volume will probably be very low. This is just an example, but basically you will have to find the highest search term for your product to gain traffic to your website.

Relevant Keywords – Once you have found the highest search terms in your business sector you need to drill down a bit to find ones that are relevant to your business. So going with the Orange example again. Orange is also the name of a Mountain Bike manufacturer. So you may see high ranked searches like “Cheap Orange HT” which would refer to Orange Hardtail bikes. As you sell the fruit oranges you would not want to be generating traffic from people looking for something you don’t sell, as this will effect your bounce rate which we mentioned earlier. You want the traffic to your website to be the most relevant as there is a much higher chance of them becoming sales.

Clean User Focused Website

SEO isn’t just about optimising your search engine results, it also covers optimising your website. A clean well laid out website will keep users engaged making them use your site for longer, decreasing your sites bounce rate and increasing your page views.

Optimised For Search Results

Getting your business to page 1 of search results is invaluable. Not being on the first page can lead to the loss of lots of valuable traffic. Being at the top or at least on the first page will increase your website traffic and with it potential sales.
It also gives you an advantage over your competitors as appearing above them in results essentially means you get first refusal.

Optimizing your business online is a combination of a well built website, engaging content, good backlinks and excellent keywords. All of these together can create a formidable online presence for your business.

On-Site SEO

On Site SEO relates specifically to changes that can be made or implemented on your website which include but are not limited to: –

  • Page Speed
  • Meta Tag Optimisation
  • Content Optimisation
  • URL Structure
  • Duplicate Content

Tracking Your Progress

There are many ways to optimise your website. Here we have mentioned a few to get you started but these will not take effect straight away. There is no change that you can make that will see instant results. You can download tools to help you monitor the traffic to your website. Google analytics is an excellent free tool for measuring your website.
You can gain vital information such as, number of people who visit your site, how long they stay, how many make purchase, how many don’t, your websites speed etc etc.
This information is invaluable and can assist in guiding you towards any necessary changes that need to be made.

There are many strategies that can be put in place to promote your website and if you are still unsure as to where to start or how to best optimism any SEO company will be able to provide a campaign to successfully push your website forward.
SEO is a long term strategy that needs to be put in place to promote your online presence and is often over looked, so why not gain yourself an advantage over the competition.

Most banks will require a meeting in person before granting you access to a business account. You will be required to provide the documents listed above, and also provide photographic identification and proof of address for all directors and any substantial shareholders.

Be aware that the bank will also need to meet face-to-face with at least one of your company representative’s in the UK to sign a bank mandate so the business bank account can be opened.

It can take anything from three weeks to three months for a bank account application in the UK to be approved and meetings to be arranged, so make sure you factor this time into your business planning process
